2022: Sel aastal mereäärseid lõkkeid süüdates mõtleme neile, kes vabaduse eest on oma elu ohverdanud
Laupäeval, 27. augustil süttivad lõkked Läänemerest Musta mereni. Muinastulede ööl, augusti viimase laupäeva päikseloojangul süüdatakse Eesti, Soome, Läti, Leedu ja teiste Läänemeremaade randades traditsioonilised lõkked. Sel aastal tähistatakse rannaäärsete lõkete süütamisega mitte ainult vabadust ja ühtsust, vaid ka vastuseisu Venemaa agressioonile Ukrainas ja toetust Ukraina vabaduse eest võitlejatele.
Muinastulede öö eestvedaja Mairold Vaik: “Ajalooliselt on Läänemeri olnud rahvaste ühendaja ja täna oleme me ühtsemad kui kunagi varem – oma toetuses Ukrainale, oma väärtustes, oma meelekindluses. Oleme mõtetes miljonite ukrainlastega, kes on sunnitud kodust põgenema ning kes võitlevad täna oma iseseisvuse ja Euroopale oluliste väärtuste eest. Läänemere kallastelt kuni Musta mereni ulatuv tulede kett on sümboolne kinnitus nii ukrainlastele kui kogu maailmale, et me oleme ühtsed.”
Muinastulede öö tulede ketiga kutsutakse ühinema kõiki Läänemeremaid. Poolas kutsutakse lõkkeid süütama nii Läänemere rannikul kui ka Wisla ja Sani jõe kallastel, Ukrainas Dnestri jõe ääres, mis voolab läbi Ukraina ja Moldova Musta mereni. Tulede ketis on osalema oodatud igas suuruses mere- ja jõeäärsed lõkked, olgu suuremate seltskondade või üksikisikute süüdatud.
Mairold Vaik: “Tulede süütamise traditsioon augusti viimasel laupäeval lähtub keskaegsetest lõketest, mis süüdati rannikul ohuteadete edastamiseks ja laevadele ohutu kodutee näitamiseks. Süütame mereäärsed lõkked, et vaikselt anda üksteisele sümboolselt märku: me hoiame kokku ja saadame positiivseid mõtteid ja lootusi üle maa ja vee.”
Mereäärsed lõkked süüdatakse sel aastal 27. augusti päikseloojangul, Eestis umbes kell 20.30. Oodatud on inimeste enda süüdatud väiksed lõkked, et mööda randu ja kaldaid moodustuks tuledest kett.

At sunset on Saturday, 27 August, bonfires will be lit from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea in support of Ukraine
On the last Saturday in August, the night of ancient fires, traditional bonfires will be lit at sunset on the beaches of Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and other Baltic Sea countries. This year, the bonfires are lit not only to celebrate freedom and unity, but also to stand against Russian aggression in Ukraine and to show support for Ukrainian freedom fighters.
Mairold Vaik, the leader of the night of ancient fires: “Historically, the Baltic Sea has always been a uniter, and today we are more united than ever before – in our support for Ukraine, in our values, in our courage. Our thoughts are with the millions of Ukrainians who are forced to flee their homes and who are fighting today for their independence and for the values that are important to us. The chain of fires stretching from the shores of the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea is a symbolic confirmation for Ukrainians and the whole world that we are united.”
All the Baltic Sea countries are invited to join the chain of lights of the night of ancient fires. In Poland, bonfires will be lit both on the coast of the Baltic Sea and on the banks of the Wisla and San rivers, in Ukraine along the Dniester River, which flows through Ukraine and Moldova to the Black Sea. Bonfires of all sizes are welcome to participate in the chain of fires, whether lit by larger groups or individuals.
Mairold Vaik: “The tradition of lighting fires on the last Saturday of August is inspired from medieval bonfires that were lit on the coast to convey messages of warning and guide ships to ports. Today we light bonfires by the sea to symbolically signal to each other: we stick together and we are in positive mood.”
This year, the seaside bonfires will be lit at sunset on August 27.
